The Cross

The cross is a powerful symbol.  There is not a more powerful symbol on Earth.  And when made of century old barbed wire it seems to me to become even more meaningful.  With each twist and turn, each poke and cut, each scrape and nick, the rusty old wire tells the stories of the hearty and faithful people that came to this land before me.  It sings their songs of triumph over hardship, freedom over tyranny and love over hatred.  And each time I finish twisting the wire, there lies a cross on the table reminding me of the greatest triumph of all - life over death.  The greatest gift to ever be given.  And never was a gift so richly undeserved.
